WHAT IS CORRUPTION ?

Corruption is not only about stealing or extorting money and property by leaders as commonly known. It includes any form of behaviour that deviates from ethics, morality, tradition, law and civic virtues by any individual or group no matter their status in the society.

Whether you are a civil servant, student, politician, carpenter, driver, military general or wife of a President or Governor; when your actions go against basic norms and regulations, you are involved in corruption.

If you eat your banana and throw the peel on the street, or use the toilet in your office or school without flushing it, then you are guilty of corruption.

If you fail to do your official assignments diligently or you execute a contract using inferior products, then you are corrupt citizen.

The word corruption is derived from the latin word "corruptus" meaning to destroy. According to the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia 2009, Corruption is a general concept describing any organised interdependent systems in which part of the system is either not performing duties it was originally intended to, or performing them in an improper way at the detriment of the system's original purpose. It could mean a situation where one influencies the decision making process of a public officer or authority or when individuals or organisations unjustly profit from an activity, such that it causes damages or losses for the general society.
