Katsina at 30 : The Real Heroes!! - By Malam Baba

Even though, i am neither a lover of celebration, nor a believer in eulogies. But i was made to betray these stands, by the arguments of who, and who should not be celebrated, that awash the media. In any building, its strength lies not in the flamboyant paintings, not the dazzling POPs, or terrazzo and imperial furnitures. It lies in the solid foundation that lies beneath. But in superficial societies, as in rivers, light things and thrash flo...ats, while the solid and the heavy lies beneath.

The building blocks that made Katsina happened, are neither the Excellences, nor Distinguished or Honourables. They are the unsung heroes, who had nothing but their humanity to offer, they are the powerless poor, who like the believers of Medina opened their arms of hospitality to the teaming heroes, coming in to start the great Katsina project, they are the proletariat that left the luxurious offices in Kaduna, Abuja and beyond for a make shift cabin as an office, they are the civil servants, that left the luxury of executive tables, for human backs, as an office table, they are the secondary and primary school teachers whose nights became days, and days remained days, to fortify us for the challenges of the day, tomorrow and today.

The Belloh Musa Dankanos, the Sani Dangogos, the Saulawas, the Garba Sandas, the Lawal Baraus, the Haruna Dalhatus, the Abdulkarim Abubakars and Malam Muhammadus, the Faskaris, the Audu BKs, the Hadi Balarabes, the Sanda Kaitas, the Maidungus, the Idris Obasas, the Malama Ummas, the Malama Jumemes, the Haruna Kankias, the Shitus with their various sizes of "dorina", the messengers, the clerks, the matrons, and many more that this podium is not even enough to contain. The traders and merchants of 'yar kutungu, the hawkers of "gwangwan", the grain merchants of Charanci and Dandume, the exporters of Mai'adua, the grain merchants of Funtua and Danja, the herders of Malumfashi, the dyers and artisans of cikin birni, the importers and exporters of Jibia, who no matter how rough the economic realities became, they kept the local economy thrive, for the powerless poor, to eat and feed their families.

And above all, the powerless poor, who endured and still enduring the repression, of repressive regimes.

These are the real heroes!!
