Yes!! Democracy is not like football game, where the players dictate the type and pattern of game to play. In it, the audience mostly dictates the success or failure of the game, depending on the alternatives and choices made to sustain it. ''Government is not owned by the people in government, but owned by the people''. Yes the evil audacity need to be stopped! Democracy and Autocracy have nothing in common. The rushing-flood never meant well for a beautiful house, but it is the duty of the owner to saveguard his property! Democracy must be protected by real-lovers of Nigeria.
No ethnic group or religion is marginalizing or seeking to dominate another. It's the elites united in greed, thievery & marriage that is enslaving all of us with ethno-religious phobia & injurious divisiveness while they cart away our common wealth for themselves & their children.
We must rise to hold them accountable on how they manage our resources & actively participate in the choices & democratic processes of selecting credible people to lead us.
The masses must unite, shake off primitive ignorances & prejudices, inherited & contrived hate, sponsored phobia for & distrust of each other to demand for accountability, merit based system & equitable distribution of resources among social classes not tribes because poverty has no tribe.
Then & only then can the Nigeria of our dreams emerge.
It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
If there is a mystical chord in democracy, it probably revolves around the notion that unexpected music can resonate from politics when people are pursuing questions larger than self… I have seen that ennobling effect in people many, many times— expressed by those who found themselves engaged in genuine acts of democratic expression, who claimed their right to define the larger destiny of their community, their nations. The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls. Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don’t learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us.Peace does not rest in the charters and covenants alone. It lies in the hearts and minds of all people. So let us not rest all our hopes on parchment and on paper, let us strive to build peace, a desire for peace, a willingness to work for peace in the hearts and minds of all of our people. I believe that we can. I believe the problems of human destiny are not beyond the reach of human beings. Good morning and happy democracy day Nigeria 🇳🇬.
